Men For A Cause, United Against Breast Cancer™ aims to increase male knowledge and awareness of breast cancer in both women and men. Our goal is to provide essential education, solutions, resources and support to breast cancer patients, men and their families with an emphasis on underserved and underdeveloped communities throughout the world.
A well known author wrote; “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” to denote the differences in gender communication and understanding of emotional needs. Ladies rest assured that we hear you and we speak “Mars”.
Men For A Cause also understands that male breast cancer is one of the world’s most unspoken hidden killers. We are resolved to bring global awareness to male breast cancer while changing the perception amongst men that breast cancer is a “woman’s disease.”
Breast cancer is a global illness with staggering reach. Epidemiologists estimate that 4.4 million women now live with diagnosed breast. The full impact in impoverished and underserved communities is unknown.
The Task Force for global breast cancer reports; “The United States is number one with 240,721 new cases of breast cancer expected this year. One in eight U.S. women will develop breast cancer at some time in their lives. The majority of these cases are detected and treated in early stages, when the 5-year survival rates are 98 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.
Other countries with high numbers of breast cancer cases are China – 145,472, India-99, 397, Germany – 59,864, Brazil – 47,343, France – 46,192, Russia – 46,031, the United Kingdom – 43,629, Italy – 39,561, and Japan – 33,619. This is partly a reflection of population size, but also depends on screening prevalence, underreporting and unstudied differences in risk and genetic factors.”
Globally, breast cancer knows no stranger however unfortunately the cultural understanding of treatment does… In many part of the word is still considered a shameful secret. Many women from across the globe refuse treatment or diagnosis for fear that their husband will leave them… There is the still the belief in many underserved community that breast cancer may be contagious.
The effect of the lack of breast cancer education is astounding. Young children are left to fend without their mothers… Husbands are losing their wives, fathers are burying their daughters, women are on their own raising their children and families are burying their men…
The tragedy of this illness is not just limited to the physical and emotional shock. In countless cases a huge financial strain is placed on the family. The overwhelming cost of treatment has to be paid, yet time is often not on the family’s side.
